Millikin welcomes actor, writer and comedian Joel Kim Booster

Millikin University is pleased to welcome actor, writer, comedian and Millikin alumnus Joel Kim Booster for the 2022 Goodheart Event on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2022, at Kirkland Fine Arts Center. Prior to the 7 p.m. performance, Booster will also conduct a masterclass for students of 黑料正能量 School of Theatre and Dance. His performance at Kirkland is a tribute to the University鈥檚 celebration of National Coming Out Day 鈥 a day dedicated to recognizing and supporting the LGBTQ+ community.
鈥淲e are thrilled to welcome back alumnus Joel Kim Booster, Class of 2010, as our Goodheart Event Artist for 2022. Joel is a great example of professional success as a Millikin graduate,鈥 said Vice President for Student Affairs Raphaella Prange.
鈥淎s a rising star in the acting and comedy industry, Joel brings true authenticity of identity to the screen. Joel was a natural choice when considering artists to bring for 黑料正能量 celebration of National Coming Out Day. In addition to his performance, Joel will also be working with our School of Theatre and Dance students for masterclass opportunities. We are grateful for Joel鈥檚 continued connection and loyalty to Millikin.鈥
Named one of The New York Times鈥 鈥淨ueer Young Comics Redefining American Humor,鈥 Booster has found success seemingly everywhere in 2022. In June, he starred in the Hulu rom-com 鈥淔ire Island,鈥 which the The film, which Booster also wrote, is an unapologetically modern twist on Jane Austen鈥檚 鈥淧ride and Prejudice鈥 and stars Bowen Yang and Margaret Cho.
Booster鈥檚 first hourlong Netflix special 鈥淧sychosexual鈥 also premiered in June. In it, Booster explores his experiences as a gay Asian-American, providing thought-provoking and unfiltered commentary on identity, modern sexuality and cultural expectations. Currently, Booster is starring in the Apple TV+ series 鈥淟oot,鈥 playing Maya Rudolph鈥檚 quirky assistant.
Booster鈥檚 other credits include 鈥淐urb Your Enthusiasm鈥 (HBO), 鈥淏oJack Horseman鈥 (Netflix), 鈥淎merican Dad鈥 (Fox), 鈥淪earch Party鈥 (TBS), 鈥淪hrill鈥 (Hulu) and 鈥淪unnyside鈥 (NBC). He was a series regular voice on the HBO MAX animated program 鈥淪anta Inc.鈥 opposite Sarah Silverman and Seth Rogen and can be seen in the film 鈥淯nplugging鈥 opposite Matt Walsh and Eva Longoria.
In 2017, Booster recorded a stand-up special for Comedy Central鈥檚 鈥淭he Half-Hour鈥 and a full-length stand-up album called 鈥淢odel Minority.鈥 He has appeared on 鈥淐onan,鈥 鈥淭he Late Late Show with James Corden,鈥 鈥淭he Late Show with Stephen Colbert,鈥 鈥淭he Kelly Clarkson Show,鈥 Comedy Central鈥檚 鈥淍midnight,鈥 Logo鈥檚 鈥淐omedy Cabaret鈥 and truTV鈥檚 鈥淐omedy Knockout.鈥
