SOTAD Unified Auditions – Spring 2025
Clybourne Park and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Tuesday, January 21 – Saturday, January 25, 2025
AUDITION PROCESS
*Your audition is two minutes in length. You must present a song AND a monologue that meet the requirements below. We WILL call “time” if you go over two minutes, so please plan accordingly. You want to make sure you can show all your material within the time allotted.
SONG
*Please sing a 1980s musical theatre cut. Shows could include (but not limited to) Dreamgirls, Les Miserables, Aspects of Love, Cats, Jekyll and Hyde, Nine and Chess. Composers could include (but not limited to) Andrew Lloyd Webber, Frank Wildhorn, Ahrens and Flaherty, and Shire and Maltby.
*Apart from the role of Joseph, every role in the show is flexible and available to all who audition. That said, please sing something that shows both vocal range and character.
*There are many cast recordings of this show, but our favorite is the 1992 Canadian Cast Recording with Donny Osmond. If you’re listening for inspiration and research purposes, please prioritize that version of the show.
*DO NOT sing anything from The Phantom of the Opera or Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
*DO NOT sing anything written by Stephen Sondheim.
*DO NOT sing a pop/rock cut.
MONOLOGUE
Please share a serio-comic monologue from any period.
DANCE
You will learn two dance combos for the dance call – jazz and tap. Please wear jazz shoes or sneakers for the jazz combo and tap shoes for the tap combo. Reach out to Angie Miller (afmiller@millikin.edu), Choreographer, with any questions or concerns.
OPTING OUT
*If you are a Junior or Senior BFA Acting major and you would like to “opt out” of singing and dancing at Unifieds, please email Performance Coordinator, Angie Miller (afmiller@millikin.edu), by 5pm on Monday, December 16, 2024. Please remember that if you choose to perform only a monologue, you will not be considered for casting in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Information Concerning Children’s Show from DENISE:
On the Unified Audition Form that you fill out before auditions, you will have the choice to indicate whether you would like to be considered for the children’s show or not. It will be a devised production. I am looking for actors, writers, composers, musicians, choreographer, costumers, props artisans, and stage managers. If you are interested, you do not need to prepare anything extra for the Unified Auditions. I will work callbacks for the children’s show around Clybourne Park and Joseph callbacks. Rehearsals begin mid-February. Show dates March 29 and 30. If you don’t plan to audition, but are interested in non-acting positions or have questions, please contact Denise: dmyers@millikin.edu
