Awards and Scholarships
History students, in particular junior and senior history majors, have the opportunity to be rewarded with scholarships and cash prizes
Awards
- Albert Mills History Prize: Established by the late Professor Albert Mills to recognize excellence in history. The amount of the award each year is determined by the earnings on the endowment.
- John Vrooman Prize: A cash prize for an outstanding junior or senior history major chosen by the faculty of the history department. The amount given is determined by the earnings on the endowment.
- J. Graham Provan History Prize: A cash prize of $250 awarded to an outstanding junior or senior history major, selected by the history department faculty. The recipient does not have to be selected annually if the history faculty determines there is not a worthy recipient.
- Sigrid A Stottrup History Prize: A $500 award to be presented each year to a junior history major who has demonstrated ability in historical research. The student must have a 3.5 GPA in History, and an overall GPA of 3.25. Recipient must have a strong, demonstrated interest in European history. The prize recipient must agree to complete a senior honor鈥檚 thesis, and orally defend it before a committee of history faculty.
Scholarships
- J. Graham Provan History Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded annually to a junior or senior level history major or other history students pursuing special studies in history. The amount of the scholarship is determined by the earnings on the endowment.
- Sigrid A. Stottrup History Scholarship: This scholarship is presented each year to a deserving junior history major. The student must have a GPA in history of 3.5 and an overall GPA of 3.25, and have a demonstrated interest in European history. Selection of the recipient will be made by the history faculty in conjunction with the university financial aid office.
