Freitag, Albert F. - Age 99, Navy Veteran of WWII, passed away on May 11, 2024. Al was born to Albert and Lillian Freitag in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his first wife Betty (Kies), his son Larry, his second wife Bernice (Greene) and his brothers, Richard, Earl and Ralph. He is survived by his daughters, Linda (Gary) Schultz, and Cindy (Ralph) Torraco; Grandchildren Ryan (Sandy) Schultz, Katie (Matt) Bestvina, Kyle (Lisa) Schultz, Jaime Torraco and Brandon Torraco; Great-grandchildren Charlotte, Whitney and Jameson Schultz, Aiden Bestvina, Margot and Clayton Schultz.
Al grew up in Brookfield, IL and attended St Barbara’s Grammar School and Riverside Brookfield High School. During World War II, Al served in a covert U. S. Navy Radio Communications Intelligence Unit, as a Radioman First Class and he was honorably discharged March 17th 1946. At 99 years old, he could still remember and recite the entire morse code.
Throughout his life he held various sales jobs, and his last position was Sales Manager for Glen Oak/Oakridge Cemeteries for 39 years in Hillside, IL. He loved to play golf, having started at a young age, and in 1999 he and Bernice moved to Sun Lakes, AZ where he played golf three times a week, all year long. Although he often played with men much younger than himself, he could hold his own and was quite proud that he made three holes in one at Oakwood and Sun Lakes Country Clubs. Al continued to enjoy golf into his early 90’s.
