Internship Information
Millikin University provides a variety of academic activities to help deliver on the promise of education. The internship is one of these activities. An internship is defined as an experience in which a currently registered Millikin student engages in a professional environment. The internship experience may happen on ºÚÁÏÕýÄÜÁ¿ campus or outside the university’s physical boundaries.
Traditionally, one credit is awarded after a minimum 40 hours of time spent at the internship experience. It is recommended that for each credit earned, there is a learning goal associated. At least one learning goal will be met for each internship. Individual departments will determine whether these experiences should receive a letter grade or be offered pass/fail. Learning goals may be repeated for mastery in subsequent internships. The goal of an internship is to integrate classroom learning with practical skill development for success in a professional setting. Students in many disciplines look to internships as a way of solidifying theoretical knowledge and critical thinking – thus allowing the opportunity to integrate theory into the practice setting.
An internship must be completed during the semester for which it is registered. Academic internships may also be completed during the summer term or winter immersion. Please review the internship handbook, which includes information such as responsibilities, evaluation forms and a training checklist to cover with your Supervising Faculty Coordinator prior to starting an internship.
The Internship Form and learn goals must be submitted to your respective Dean’s Office for course creation and registration.
